Their were many things that needed to the taken into account for the execution and the success of the film that we made as a group. one of these things were based on the themes that media films often have and connotations that come along with them, this was a key technique that needed to be involved with the film to make it recognizable as a thriller and enjoyable to experience. one convention that was used was a cliff hanger at the end of the film clip because it leaves the audience wanting and interested in what was going to happen straight after.
this is one thing that is vital in thrillers because it maintains the interest of the viewer and makes the picture audience engaging due to the fact that they fell like they are part of the film in a particular way, the way in which this was used in our film was the fact that the maim character was to late to be able to save the character in trouble and the film ends with the 'hero' leaving the scene by not accomplishing anything, this leaves room for the rest of the film to develop and grow because it does not fell like them end came too soon and the reason for making the short clip end this way is to leave the audience with different options on what would have happened later on Alfred hitch-cock's work on the film 'North by North West was a key inspiration in the idea of the finishing scene for our short film but with a change in the way in which it all plays out because without people hanging on for their live, in our film there was already a life lost and the hero end with the phrase 'The good ones always have to go', it is so unexpected that the audience is left wanting.
Contrast with the hero another thriller convention that was used was the theme of a villain being the cause of the plot throughout the film, the way in which we incorporate the villain into the film is by painting him as a ruthless killer with no basis or explanation for the murder he commits also in our film his actions are his only dialog, i feel this also adds to the personality of the character by making him a silent murderer with no remorse, this is also a theme that can be seen in my thriller films.Another convention that was used of a red herring which was used due to the influence of Alfred Hitchcock, in our film the red herring was the mobile phone reason for waiting in the ally and the short scene leading to the high point of the film. the use of the female character calling someone in the ally makes the film take the direction of a calm and less exciting story line for a brief moment because it seems to be that a female character is waiting for someone that has not already arrived.
One other convention that was used in our film was an attractive female character being the target of the villain in our film. she is the character that ties everything together from the red herring, due to the fact that she had the mobile phone that she was calling, causing confusion in the minds of the audience, makes them ask questions. to the final scene of the film. the theme of a female in trouble was a great way to make the audience a lot more recognizable and for empathy.
